As the operation unfolded, a man implicated in the case was expected to stop by Room 153 at Motel 6, 2800 Interstate 10 Frontage Road, Port Allen, to sell Lortab painkillers to an undercover narcotics agent, said Maj. Richie Johnson, of the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The situation turned violent when the man deviated from what agents expected, pulled out a gun and tried to rob and shoot the undercover officer, Johnson said.
The sheriff’s agent pulled his own weapon, fired off several rounds and killed the man, Johnson said.
Investigators declined to identify the deceased man, pending notification of next of kin.
The shooting took place about 5:30 p.m. in a commercial area of Port Allen adjacent to La. 415 that offers an array of truck stops, motels, casinos and restaurants.
2.LAFAYETTE — City-parish government is facing a $146,000 judgment for damages in a lawsuit brought by a woman who was injured when a Park Police officer rear-ended her car in 2008.
The City-Parish Council is scheduled to meet in a closed-door session Tuesday to discuss paying the judgment, which comes after a December bench trial before 15th Judicial District Judge Glennon Everett.The judge filed his ruling in the case last week, awarding Gail Strenge $131,621 for medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.

issued a letter outlining its concerns about the blowout preventer testing as part of the investigation into the cause of the massive Gulf oil spill.
